Here are some recommendations from projects I have worked on in the last twelve months.

“Josephine worked with two groups of our Year 12 students in preparation for their AS Level creative writing coursework assignment. She presented a thought-provoking, engaging and challenging range of activities. They found the workshops beneficial in a number of ways; they learned useful strategies to improve their own writing and gained greater understanding of the writer's craft.

The students enjoyed the time they spent with Josephine-they were motivated, inspired and felt empowered as writers.”

Kathy McMahon, Head of Communications, Hind Leys Community College, Shepshed, Leicestershire.

“Thank you so much for all the work you put into making both days so successful. Your writing workshops were outstanding.”

Librarian, Bishop Walsh Catholic Comprehensive School, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.

“Pupils have taken on board Josephine’s advice. They have started taking the risk of writing down ideas and not worrying too much about spelling. This has helped ‘unblock’ certain pupils and they are becoming more independent.. Two pupils have started writing at length. One has been able to write about very personal and traumatic events in his life. Visits from authors help to motivate young readers and writers. Getting advice from a ‘real’ author is always more valuable than a teacher.”

Phoenix School, Bow, East London.

“I first met Josephine in 2003 when I was working alongside the Anne Frank Trust with a group of looked after young people to deliver on the citizenship agenda.  I invited Josephine at short notice to come along and speak with the young people with regards to one of her novels.  The young people I work with all have deep seated issues and can be very changeable.  Josephine immediately picked up on the situation and dealt with it professionally and with a great deal of sensitivity.  My group of young people did win the award for Moral Courage and Josephine played her part in that.

Over the last 6 years Josephine has delivered many workshops for me and has made a lasting impression in the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people.  Two years ago Josephine was invited to speak at our Annual Library Conference and was equally at home and relaxed with Adults.  Our staff were all very impressed and enjoyed her talk of 45 minutes.

would never have any doubts of recommending Josephine to School’s both Key Stage 1 and to Key Stage 3 and to Adults alike.”
